  • Meet all buyers at the office the first time you meet.
  • Ask for I.D. at your first meeting.
  • Have the buyers fill out a buyer information sheet.
  • Learn detailed information about a buyer.
  • Always let someone know where you are going and with whom.
  • Take another agent with you if you are not comfortable with the situation.
  • Drive to houses in separate vehicles.
  • Carry a cell phone with the office & other key numbers set on speed dial.
  • Know the areas you are going into.
  • ALWAYS lock your car as soon as you exit.
  • Lock your car while riding.
  • Use air conditioning so the windows can be shut.
  • Check under the car and look in the back seat before entering.
  • If you feel uncomfortable, find a way to excuse yourself immediately.
  • Bring your spouse to your open house (make sure they don’t help anyone).
  • Never advertise property as being vacant.
  • Don’t put your home phone number on your business card.
  • Maintain a safe distance from a buyer while in a house.
  • Stay between the buyer and an exit.
  • Let the buyer go into the basement or other confined areas on their own.
  • Create a coded message that can be used with your office or family.
  • Let a buyer know that someone else may be at the house at any time.
  • Dress conservatively.
  • Carry a whistle or alarm.
  • Trust your instincts.
