How Important Is A Roof Inspection?      About the Author

Home Inspection

Anecdote of the Month

On a recent roof inspection, I peered down a brick chimney with my flashlight only to see the reflecting eyes of a frightened raccoon peering back up at me! I'm not sure which one of us was more surprised. A summoned exterminator reported that the non-paying tenant had a litter of babies -- this was their den! That night, while the mother was foraging for food, the exterminator returned and poured male raccoon scent down the chimney. (Don't ask me how the exterminator got a hold of male raccoon scent. I would have paid big money to see that fight!)  The mother raccoon, fearing that the male would return to eat her babies, moved her litter out of the chimney. The abandoned chimney was then capped with an animal screen. Needless to say, she forfeited her rent deposit.
